Job Description :

As a Motor Pool Operations Manager, you will be accountable for the successful management of the company fleet. All actions will be in support of increasing line of business satisfaction, lowering the cost of repairs, and increasing equipment availability. This includes the development and execution of long and short-range goals, action plans, and effective leadership of the division.



  • Supervises, plans, coordinates, and directs the work of the division.

  • Makes staffing decisions within the division including hiring, training, performance evaluation, scheduling of workload, job assignments, professional development, and retention of assigned personnel.

  • Compiles, maintains, and reviews all reports, daily work records, timecards, payroll information, work specifications, work schedules, and appropriate personnel documentation within the division. Supervises completed work of assigned personnel.

  • Makes maintenance and purchasing decisions. Writes specifications and submits bids for vehicles, equipment, tools, and supplies within the division including new vehicles and items related to fueling, oil, batteries, tires, cutting edges and other maintenance items. items. Locates, compares, and negotiates parts and prices with vendors.

  • Assists in the preparation of the division budget. Processes and approves purchase orders and requisitions, tracks and maintains a perpetual inventory of parts and tools, reviews invoices and expenditures, maintains files. Completes related reports and documentation as required.

  • Responsible for completing a variety of inventory duties including purchasing parts and supplies, scheduling work orders and equipment, maintenance, completing stock counts and annual inventories, and maintaining cost analysis records. Receives deliveries, updates all related computer files, and maintains and organizes the stock room. Assists area staff as needed and keeps management well informed.

  • Be accountable for all maintenance costs, equipment availability, and repair decisions for fleet units.

  • Responsible for shop usage of parts, inventories, etc.

  • Approve all Shop Expenditures.

  • Coordinates vehicle requirements for the Ranger Groups and establishes priorities for emergency situations and unanticipated events.

  • Supervises fueling station to ensure proper operation and compliance with established regulations.

  • Plans, coordinates, and directs the inspection, maintenance, and repair of all company vehicles.

  • Monitors labor costs and assigns to appropriate vehicles.

  • Determines billings for inter companies.

  • Prepares reports relating to vehicle inspections for the Public Service Commission.

  • Assists in determining lease and rental costs for vehicles and equipment through appropriate allocation of expenses such as time, fuel, oil, and other maintenance.

Required Qualifications :

  • Must be a proven leader.

  • Experience managing transportation equipment, a motor pool, or a maintenance shop.

  • Able to organize and multitask because you are overall responsible for a large quantity of equipment in various stages of availability and people working on a multitude of tasks.

  • Solid analytical skills to recognize issues or concerns.

  • Able to motivate people and get every member of the team to work together toward a common goal.

  • Strong presentation skills, excellent communication (both written and oral) skills are required.

  • Able to learn quickly the company methods and equipment and be able to implement them quickly.

  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work activities.

  • Knowledge of cost accounting methods and procedures.

  • Ability to resolve conflicts and complaints.

  • Ability to determine specifications and prepare bids.

  • Skill in Office and basic programs

  • Ability to maintain files, records, and reports.
